One hundred years after the passage of the 19th amendment, the films presented will tell the dramatic culmination of the hard-fought campaign waged by American women for the right to vote. These narratives illustrate the largest expansion of voting rights in the history of the U.S. An interactive program begins the journey, exploring the final decade (1910-1920) of the movement through powerful images brought to life. Presentation of the contributions of Black Suffragists during this era is offered. Continued support from iconic leaders Dorothy Height and Fannie Lou Hamer are explored. Native American women and their activism on many fronts of influence within and beyond the suffrage movement are discussed, by Brenda J. Child, Cathleen D. Cahill, and Sally Roesch Wagner. February 26: Pierre “Pete” Charette This is the story of a French-Canadian boy whose name is Pierre “Pete” Charette, born in Valleyfield, Quebec Province, and who became a historical figure in the war on drugs in the United States and Europe. His adventures spanned a heart-pounding 33 years as a police officer, undercover detective and DEA Special Agent throughout the United States and around the world. It chronicles Charette’s fascinating, high-stakes and impactful career first-hand. It includes some of the most famous cases ever developed by him, his colleagues and the DEA. March 12: Seamus McGraw Seamus McGraw is the author of a few books, including the critically acclaimed The End of Country: Dispatches from the Frack Zone, and Betting the Farm on a Drought: Stories from the Front Line of Climate Change. His most recent book, From a Taller Tower, the Rise of the American Mass Shooter, traces the arc of America’s deadly epidemic of mass public violence over the past half century. Betsy Buzzelli-Clarke is retired from ESU’s music department where she taught music history, theory, piano, and strings. Hope Fisher, owner of Hope Yoga in Central New Jersey loves to teach yoga to individuals of all ages, body types and physical abilities to help feel them better in their bodies while helping to bring some stillness to their minds. Robin Friedman worked in advertising, journalism, and publishing. She loves US history, road trips, cats, and chocolate. Rosalyn Blue Sky Henley writes poetry, is a retired Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist, and is a cultural heritage researcher specializing in Indigenous and American African societies and craft. Amy Leiser is Executive Director of the Monroe County Historical Association, local history freelance writer and active in many community organizations. Ken LeSure, Ph.D. is a retired psychology professor. Mike Liberman is an Emeritus Professor of English at East Stroudsburg University. Dr. Tim Malefyt has a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from Cornell University. His career spans 36 years of international and domestic research and development in the area of food production technology. Roxane Martin has a Master’s in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance from Temple University. She worked as research technician in immunology projects, then moved to industry, notably Sanofi Pasteur in Product Development and Quality Assurance/Training. She is currently retired. Valerie Martin has had a family member in every major war from WW1 to the Gulf War. Chef Nicola Mersini is an Amerigo Vespucci Culinary Institute of Milan graduate and has worked his way through the great kitchens of Italy, Paris, and NYC. He brings that talent to bear at Momento Restaurant in Stroudsburg. Maury Molin, retired high school history teacher, is TOALC Past President & Borough Councilman. Sandy Moore is a retired Director of Guidance and an eight-year volunteer docent at the Pearl S. Buck Foundation. Tom Moore danced on American Bandstand and played in a Rock and Roll Band. Leslie Sloan is a Life Master bridge player, has an ACBL teaching certificate, and has been playing for many years. Dr. James J. Vagliardo is a professor of Math/Computer Science; an educational consultant, writer, and researcher; an international traveler and lecturer; a soccer coach, avid hiker, and Tai Chi teacher who loves abstract art and jazz. Dr. Jeffrey A. Weber is Pastor of the Reeders United Methodist Church. He retired from ESU as Provost for Academic Affairs, was former ESU Poly Sci Chair, PA Senate staffer and U.S. Army Officer. Weintraub, Esq. is definitely a Baby Boomer with a lifetime passion for studying American History, American Politics and Culture and learning about different people, cultures, music, customs and traditions.
